You may remember Karen and Nate from their engagement session here and here. They had so much fun with their session they decided to do another one with Nate’s daughter Lizzie. They wanted to do something different from their vintage styled engagement session and do bright colors with a more relaxed atmosphere. They chose Hannah park for it’s variety of landscapes. We started at the beach and then ended at the lake just before sunset. We always have a good time with these guys and can’t wait for their wedding this fall!

As promised from our “just teasing” post, we have TONS of photos for you to feast your eyes upon in this fun family photo shoot. I also got to play stylist and styled the whole photo shoot from concept and locations to clothing and props, I even took a stab at hair/makeup (see the end of the post for my resources.) It was a lot of work but it paid off! We wanted to go for a preppy beachy spring look but not actually shoot it at the beach since we shot last years session at the beach. The Castillo De San Marcos in St. Augustine was the perfect spot for a cool textured background and soft lighting. We set up a little table for the kiddos to play at and they took to it right away. Little Preston carried his cup everywhere! Next we used a bunch of fun props like a vintage ice cream parlor chair, paper mache’ L-O-V-E letters, blue and pink balloons, rock candy lollipops, and the letter “M” for Morgan of course. Big Sis Hailey Jo has a huge sweet tooth so we took a stop by the candy store where she eyed a big Swirly Pop. Lastly, we finished up with photos walking down parts of St. George street. There were just way too many good photos so this is a long post. Grab a cup of coffee, sit back and devour every image!

As a photographer, I spend all of my time behind the camera and not in front of it. While like most women I am particular about myself in photos, I think it is good to get on the other side of the lens once in a while. It allows a photographer to stay connected to what it’s like for clients and how to communicate with them in order to get the desired outcome. During one of our off Saturdays, Andy and I decided to go do a personal shoot with more of a stylized look just for fun. A friend and client of ours allowed us to shoot on her Grandmother’s property and we had to make ourselves stop, there are so many photo possibilities out there! For Grant’s 8 year photos, we headed up to Amelia Island for a beach shoot. For little boy portraits, I like to direct them to pose like little men. In other words, they don’t have to be super smiley. I also like to let them start to play so their personality comes out. Sometimes it works well to have them make a mad “model” face, then they can only hold it so long without bursting out laughing. I love the brooding ones.

We shot baby Alex last year for her one year photos (you can see them here) so we were honored when her parents (Pam and Jesse Dent) wanted us to shoot her again for her two year photos.  That means we are doing our job! Of course to us, it is more than just a job and we always enjoy spending time with the Dent family. Pam had the great idea of shooting at the courtyard area at the Atlantic Beach Town Center followed by some fun in the sand. We brought some silly props like sand castle building supplies, a hula hoop, and some balloons to add that pop of color. I asked Pam if Alex had a tutu and she said that she not only had one but she had made it herself! So sit back and enjoy our little ballerina.

The Morjon family recently moved to Jacksonville from the windy city and wanted some urban shots that still reflected their new town. What Floridian doesn’t want to show off the warm climate on their family Christmas card? I know I sure did.  We had fun shooting them downtown near the Florida theater as well as at the Landing area. There are so many great places to shoot downtown and in the historic areas for those “urban” type photos so for those of you that think you are limited to the beach think again! Or you can always get the best of both worlds and do a double session! These type of locations also make for great bride and groom, trash the dress/bridals,  or wedding party shots.
